GI appt
The appointment was good. He spent the first several minutes talking to Oliver and Penny. He is super nice, and he was very encouraging and supportive… But told me on a number of occasions that he wished he could help but there isn't really much he can do. He said he admires how much I'm sacrificing for Oliver and it shows in how happy and healthy he is. He said, "He's thriving because of those sacrifices, but I know it's not easy." He said that Oliver was still getting all the amazing benefits of breastmilk as we try to figure out a diet that will work for both of us. He had no nutritional concerns regarding Oliver.
He doesn't care what the scratch tests said, he said if I say he's reacting to chicken, he's reacting to chicken. He said he does not want to do a scope because it wouldn't change anything, just confirm what we know. He said there is a chance there's some mast cell stuff going on, but he honestly doesn't think so, and wouldn't medicate for it at this point either, so a biopsy would be needlessly putting him through a procedure.
He asked me about Zantac. I said I think it's helping but the dosage needs adjusting. I said it might not be strong but I thought it was the best. He agreed and increased the dose and frequency. He said there are stronger meds for reflux, but Zantac has antihistamine properties and can custom compounded to his allergies. I agreed. He is hesitant to give probiotics or enzymes directly because of Oliver's sensitivity level. He's okay with probiotics through me.
I asked about rotavirus vaccine and he agreed it was best to skip it and sent his recommendation to Dr Thai.
He won't say chronic fpies without vomiting as a symptom but having a written diagnosis of allergic colitis is good enough for me. He does think there might be some histamines in play, but there always are with allergic reactions. He encouraged me to find a place where I'm satisfied with his comfort and health and weigh that against my health as well. And reminded me that time is best medicine, and he'll be following in sisters successful footpaths soon.
I think it was a very successful visit in terms of being heard, supported, encouraged, and diagnosed.
