Halloween

Halloween was a hit! We did several carnivals before hand, and then we bundled up for the cold evening and went out trick-or-treating. Penny ran into one of her school friends right out the gate, and she was super excited to see him.  Oliver rode in the wagon, and I had a small backpack full of non-food treats to help him feel included in the trick-or-treating festivities.  They ran into another friend who ended up joining us as well. At one point in time, we saw a house that had a smoke machine that had filled up the entire neighborhood with smoke, and of course the kids wanted to go check it out. It was decorated with wall-to-wall spiderwebs, and the porch itself was quite dark. The kids climb through the spiderwebs to get to the front door knock, but I pointed out that there was a chest with about a dozen jolly rancher's in it in front of the door, that everyone had walked past. It was so dark they couldn't see it. So they had to come back out through the spiderwebs, at which point Oliver got caught around the neck by one of the spiderwebs and started to panic. It ended up being quite the stressful experience waiting for the big kids to move out of the way so that I could extract him while he was freaking out. And he still been talking about it for days. But he was a good spirit,, cheered right up to finish trick-or-treating with Penny as a family so that we didn't have to worry about keeping up with the other kids. They both had a lot of fun, enjoyed some lollipops on the way home… Oliver's first… And then handed out candy to one of Penny's friends when we got here.
