Quarantine Journals - Day before Easter
It was a really busy day today.
Richard took the kids outside this morning and let me sleep in a little bit. He cut up some pieces of wood for Oliver to play with, and gave Penny the sawdust which she thoroughly enjoyed. He's talking about making one of those big Jenga sets for the back porch. Did I mention he restained the deck the other day?
I woke up and made us some chocolate banana milkshakes, and then we ended up piling the kids in the bathtub because they were both covered in sawdust and dirt. While they were in the bath, Richard took off for work, and once they were out of the bath, Oliver was crashing for a nap.
Richard texted me from the office talking about how every single grocery parking lot he passed was full of cars, Long lines at all the drive-through's as well. He said "nobody staying home. Everybody still out here interacting with each other and spreading this." That's pretty super disgusting to hear. It's hard to know what's really going on out there when you don't ever leave the house.
I sent a text message to the shopper that was so amazing with our groceries last time and asked her if she wanted to pick up another order instead of me placing it through Instacart. She was enthusiastic, and offered to go get them today, which would've never happened through the app. It basically says you'll get your groceries sometime between Tuesday and Sunday. It's her probably over two hours to do the shopping because it seem like the store was out of everything and so we were constantly discussing substitutes. But she got almost everything I hoped for, and it cost us probably $200 less than it would have on Instacart. I left her $100 tip, and Penny held up the thank you sign and was super excited when carmen made a heart sign with her hands back at Penny.
To be honest, I have walked over to the fridge and open the door just a smile at all the food a few times this evening. It's not that we were down to barely having anything, but there's just something really comforting and safe and secure and warm about knowing that we have a fridge full of food for the kids. Variety, options, stocked up. And I hope the big tip helped Carmen and her family have a better Easter too.
We were doing some additional decorating to our Easter eggs with stickers and phone parts while Richard spent the next half hour or so sanitizing and unpacking the groceries.
I have spoken briefly with my dad earlier that day, but he said that he wanted to talk to me again privately later when Richard can take the kids. He's not been feeling well today, which is definitely worrisome. Especially with those guys having been in his house a couple of days ago. But he also has horrible environmental allergies, and with the pollen count being as high as they are, I'm hoping that's all it is.
Richard ended up at work for hours today because he was trying to set up a remote desktop and it wouldn't work. And then he had to turn around and do all his work again. It was really sweet of him to try because I had mentioned to him that if he could skip just one week of going in, that would be a 14 day quarantine and then maybe my dad could come and stay with us. But I'm also too worried about the fact that we've been sick back-and-forth to encourage him into the house. I could never forgive myself if he got sick because of us.
By the time I called my dad back, he wasn't wanting to talk. He told me to call him tomorrow.
I spent the evening getting everything ready for Easter tomorrow. It's still saying there's a 50% chance of rain, but I'll take that over the 90% chance it was showing a few days ago.
I spent today messaging some moms that I knew were struggling with being quarantined, and I sent them each 25 bucks so that they could go rent or purchase a new movie and have a movie night with the kids. It seemed really cheer a lot of them up, and I'm grateful for that. It feels good to help, But it also feels like a drop in the bucket.
Penny's teacher lost her beloved pet today, and she's devastated. I emailed all the teachers and told them that I was planning on sending her a digital card and a donation towards the vet bills, and I invited them to join me if they wanted to.
The caterpillars are getting really big!
