Quarantine Journals - Zoom, Fresh Air, Movies
Today was a good day. The weather was beautiful outside, high of 75. Penny's teacher was having a difficult time with getting the class zoom meeting started again, so I offered to help and she was quick to call me. We got everything figured out, and I told her if she wanted to she could call me after the meeting and we could figure out where the problem was happening before the next class.
The minute that Penny started talking to her class, Oliver was yelling to go talk to his friend on video chat. We've been really lucky that Mia and Aurora have been available the last couple of times that Penny has had virtual class. Oliver has been delighted to talk to them on Facebook messenger and use all the video filters, bring his toys over to share them, play peekaboo, just be silly.
After their chats finishEd, I jumped on the phone call with Penny's Teacher to help show her various ways that she could get the meetings going a little smoother. Afterwards, I put together some video tutorials and screenshots showing her different settings and different tips and tricks for the kids to use the next time they have a virtual class. While I was doing this, Richard took the kids outside to school long on scooters and play with bugs and get nice and dirty.
After lunch and a nap, the kids got a chance to play some video games, eat another delicious homemade gluten-free pizza, and then we pulled out stuff to dye eggs. We are using the plastic eggs, of course, and both the kids were super excited to see the dye cups come out. They had a great time coloring all the eggs, and Oliver thoroughly dyed his hands as well. When we were wrapping up that activity, Oliver caught a glimpse of Richard out the back door and yelled "movie!!"—somewhat spoiling the surprise for Penny, but they were both super excited to have another movie night outside in the little inflatable beanbag things that Richard bought.
So we rented trolls world tour which came out today, and all gathered around with some popcorn to watch the movie. The weather was perfect, the movie was really sweet and full of messages of positivity and inclusion and love. I got Penny to bed feeling very fulfilled with how the day had gone, relieved and happy that we all shared some really lovely moments together.
Richard will be off to work tomorrow, into an office where I know Eric has been coughing and not wearing masks, letting people in and out even though Richard has told him not to let anyone into the office. So we can just start up the anxiety again. Every week, back into an environment that I know is not clean or safe, and hoping that he doesn't bring something home with him.
I'm up late full of anxiety and trying to figure out what to do for the Easter bunny on Sunday because on top of being quarantined, it also looks like it's going to rain. Penny has mentioned several times that she thinks that there's a chance that parents are putting the eggs outside is that the Easter bunny, and I'm trying to process that and figure out how I'm gonna pull After magic this year without losing her believe in the whole system. That feels like a pretty big weight on my shoulders, and the rain ordeal is certainly not helping!
