Quarantine Journals - Broken A/C
The kids spent most of the morning doing schoolwork while I tidied up and cleaned medicine stuff around the kitchen. When they were finished, Richard suggested that we take a bike ride. It was about 1130, and I wasn't really sure it was the best idea because Oliver seemed tired, but the kids got really excited so we went for it.
We rode around the neighborhood for a little over 5 miles before I decided to throw in the towel and asked him to head back. When we got home, Oliver was hysterical. He didn't want to get out of the Bike Trailer, and he had a total meltdown in the living room. He asked for milk and I knew that he was too tired to do anything else. So I took him into the bedroom where he pretty quickly fell asleep and took a nice early nap.
We were all super hot and tired from a bike ride, and I cranked down the AC, but never really felt like I got a whole lot cooler. When he woke up, he just climbed out of bed and walked off. I got up and looked at the phone and it said it was 77° in here. I thought maybe my phone was broken so I looked at the real thermostat, and it said the same. I asked Richard what was going on, and he seemed none the wiser. I took a temp gun to the air that was coming and it was reading 83. The high today was about 85 or 86, I think. We shut the unit down for about an hour, but when we restarted the air wasn't any cooler. I put a phone call into the guy who has always worked on our AC, and he didn't have any appointments available until tomorrow evening. So, we brought all the fans in from outside, and it honestly wasn't too terrible once everybody reduce the amount of clothing they were wearing.
Once we had the box fan inside, I suggested to Richard that we put the bubble tent that Brandon had gotten them a year ago onto the box fan and let them play. I had a blast for a couple hours with it. At that point, I think it was cooler outside with a breeze and suggested that we go out into the backyard, but Richard wanted to just lay on the couch and watch a movie so we did that instead. We had A small dinner of smoothies and hummus with crackers while we watched Spiderman homecoming on the TV. After that, we all got ready for bed and I got Penny to sleep, but Oliver was fighting it. When I suggested it is time for all of her go to sleep, Richard was getting pretty snappy. I'm guessing he was overheated, but there was a lot of friction and aggression this evening. We won't be going to bed in the best of moods, or at least I won't. He's already asleep. He's very worried about how he's going to sleep with it being warm, but the low tonight is 60, and it's already 73° in here. I don't really feel like it's a crisis, and that this is Much better than when it tends to happen and it's already 100° outside. But, I'm staying awake so that I can keep all the doors and windows open and try to cool down the inside of the house as much as possible before I go to bed. I understand that he's hot, and at this point he has the coolest room with the biggest fan, and he's already asleep. So here's hoping he has a decent night and wakes up in a better mood tomorrow.
I'm obviously pretty worried about how we're going to have the AC guy out to work on the unit and still maintain proper social distancing. I'm not really interested in having anyone inside of our house right now, regardless of whether they're wearing a mask or gloves. So I'm really hoping that whatever the issue is, it's with the outdoor unit and not the inside. But I guess we'll find out when Scott shows up tomorrow.
I used the empty holes on the aero garden where we're growing the tomatoes in need of the additional space to start a few more seats. When my final aero garden gets here I'm going to spread everything out, and Wendi's new seeds sprout I'm just gonna put them in jars.
I noticed that one of my pepper plants outside, the one that the squirrels ate almost all the leaves off of, is starting to bloom. So that's very exciting! I'm hoping that nobody eats the blooms before we can get the cage made this weekend and put on there to protect the plants. I've also got an entire season starting tray of probably 20 different pepper plants that need to go outside, but I don't know how to do that until we have something in place to protect them.
Penny had a lot of schoolwork today, but she seem to have a good day getting it all done. She got to have a drawl a long lesson with the art teacher this morning the other class zoom meeting, and she really enjoyed it. She instantly got off of the class meeting and went to go find his other drawing videos so that she can work on more art.
What else? My dad gave him self a haircut today because it was driving him crazy. He did a really good job! Dallas ISD is already mentioning the possibility of not going back to on-campus learning full-time in the fall. Right now they're suggesting that they might do a schedule of two days at the school and three days at home learning to try and accommodate the parents who can't be home with their kids all day because of their jobs. But, you can guess where I stand on this. Thanks to all this BS re-opening too early, I'm fairly certain that none of the kids will be going back in the fall. And I certainly won't be sending my kids back if I have any concerns about Covid.
