Quarantine Journals - Last Day of School

Today was the last day of school, and it started with a jolt. Richard woke me up late, and he had forgotten about her last zoom class which started 15 minutes ago. Luckily, a lot of people had been late, and I don't think she missed too much. None of the kids wanted to hang up at the end, and Richard and I were getting teary. After the class, I asked her how she was doing, and she said sad that she wouldn't see her friends again. We decided to have a graduation ceremony in the living room where I made a speech and then we dropped balloons on her.

Afterwards, we decided to go outside for a bit. The kids ended up in the sandbox, and I was arranging sweet potatoes. I was getting ready to bring them inside when I saw a text from her teacher asking if we had watched the awards videos—we had not. She wanted to come by, so I pulled the kids into the shower, rushed them to get dressed, and started the video.  Penny was awarded Maverick Of The Year for her class.  Right after the teacher announced the award, we cheered and clapped and I told her Mrs Oswald was outside. She dropped Penny's certificate at the door and we went out with masks on to wave hello. I started to cry.

We did lunch and a giant nap battle.

Richard got a title change and name plaque at work.  Penny read us the book she had been working on at school.

After the nap, the kids helped make nachos and watched Frozen 2. I gotThen it macarons as a treat. Then we FaceTimed my dad and Penny told him all about her day.

Got her to bed. Still haven't heard from Deanna. I found a video of Daniel Levy suggesting that instead it looking at masks as an infringement of your freedoms, look at it as an act of kindness. Posted that, and got a long message from Brad—who I haven't talked to in years—telling me how judgey and unkind I'm being.

Feeling very done with online relationships right now. Talked to Amy on the phone a long time.
