Quarantine Journals - Grandpa’s House
It took a few hours, but we got out of the house around noon and headed to my dad's. Oliver was not pleased to be in the car. Mosley slept pretty much the whole drive in his new little dog car seat with a window view.
When we arrived here, Penny and Oliver ran into the living room. I don't think they were sure if they should go up to my dad or not (social distancing) so they ran to the couch and jumped up and down next to him. I brought some stuff in from the car, and then came in to say hello. I asked him if he was okay with a hug, and he said no. With a grin. He held his arms out, and I jumped in. We hugged each other tight for a long minute. He whispered "I love you." I said it back.
It feels good to be here. It hurts this time of year, but it mostly just feels really good to be here. Grandpa had already fixed lunch, so we all ate together. Then Oliver said "okay I am ready to sleep now!" Richard asked, "with daddy?" And Oliver yelled OKAY. And then they went to sleep. It is... very bizarre... how that all happened. While Oliver slept, my dad, Penny, and I played UNO, and other bored games.
Mosley did great today.
When Oliver was up, I got the kids ready to go outside to the pool. I showed Oliver a video of him jumping off the diving board last year, and he got super nervous. He didn't want anything to do with going underwater, but within the first 10 minutes, he still went over to the diving board and jumped off. A few times. They played in the floats my dad got them for his birthday, and after a while, we came in for dinner.
Richard made steak fajitas, and Oliver was ALL OVER the place, so I turned on a movie. We ate dinner while we watched the movie, and then Richard took Mosley out. I told Penny that she could see a lot of stars if she went out right now, so she did, and soon after I got a text that said "fireflies."
Seeing fireflies here again was nothing short of magical. They were all over and just so special to see and share with my family. It's been so long since I've seen them. Then it was time for bed for everyone.
I'm tired like a normal person at 11pm. And I'm so very happy to be here.
