Quarantine Journals - Race Wars

I wanted to bring up that 6 Black people have been lynched nationwide in the last week.

Earlier my dad said to me, out off no where "do I look brown to you?"  He was looking at his legs.  And I was like "LOL what are you asking me, my dear Arabic father?"  I think he was asking about his tan line maybe but I still don't know. And I laughed and laughed about it in my head because it was so bizarre.

But it's 1 AM and I'm sitting here chuckling again until I realize... my dad is, yet again, in danger because of the color of his skin.  I'm actually grateful he won't leave the house right now because of covid.  Because we all know that town is full of a lot of racists.

Just two days ago I was reading in the Weatherford group, a post by a woman who was saying her son graduated the night before, and she had "never been so disappointed in her entire life" as she was when some of the students took a knee during the national anthem. AND THERE WERE 1200 COMMENTS, MOSTLY SUPPORTING HER SENTIMENTS.

Maybe I now fully grasp why my dad has always been so paranoid. Why he sleeps with a weapon near his bed. Because I've surely seen him discriminated against in even the most benign of day to day activities. Just like we've seen a lot of hate and violence his direction growing up.
