Quarantine Journals - We made it
We had a rough day today. I shirked my adult responsibilities to take the kids out for a swim because we all needed a reset. While we were in the pool, we spotted this tiny baby lizard on the tile just above the water. Her body was cold despite the heat, so I am guessing she had just managed to crawl out of the water. She settled down on my thumb, and I held her for a while, letting her warm up and rest. When she started perking up and looking around, I took her over to a shaded area thick in foliage and bid her the best of luck.
There are certainly days where I have wondered when someone was going to come scoop me out of the proverbial water and give me a warm, safe space to chill for a bit before heading back into the fray. I think I needed this peaceful break and lizzy snuggle almost as much as she did.
Tonight at dinner, after a particularly DIFFICULT day, I collapsed into my chair and said "Well, guys, we made it."
Penny: "What do you mean?"
Me: "I mean we made it to the end of the day, thank goodness."
Penny: "What happens when we don't?"
Me: "What? I don't know."
Penny: "Well, one day we won't. One day we won't all make it to the end of the day. One by one, we won't make it. Because....that's life. We can't all make it. If everyone lived forever, there would be too many people on this planet."
Me: (blink)
