Quarantine Journals - Quarantine Birthdays

Richard's birthday was Saturday.  I had messaged Paula, our Weatherford grocery connection, before bed on Friday about a spontaneous grocery run for a special meal. My dad's idea to fix some crab legs and fish for him for a birthday dinner.  Richard let me sleep in a little bit, and when I got up Paula had already grabbed my dad's meds from the pharmacy and was waiting to grab groceries. So Richard went off to work, and I had Paula grab some king crab legs, salmon, baked potatoes, and ice cream.  I spent one day earlier in the week making a cake for Richard... the usual request. Chocolate with chocolate and more chocolate, and then we hid it in the fridge.  Penny, Oliver, and I sat down at the dining room table and made decorations.  I brought the birthday banners they had made for me from home and we hung them up as well.  Then the kids helped me wrap a few small gifts, and we were ready. I took Oliver for a nap, and Penny got to surprise Richard with the decor when he got home.

When I was getting the baked potatoes ready to go in the oven, I saw that one of the three were bad. I threw it in the trash, and my dad immediately went and dug it out. I was like omg what are you doing with that trash potato. He said why did you throw it out, you could have just cut off that one spot? He stood at the sink washing the potato with the sponge and then wrapped it up and said he would eat it—he had
already told me he didn't even want the potato!  So while I was making potatoes and biscuits, he made this potato in the microwave. I said "You said you didn't even want a potato! And now you are putting it in the microwave? You could have at least had a yummy trash potato in the oven!"  Oliver ran in the room yelling "I WANT TO SEE THE TRASH POTATO!" Lol

When Oliver got up, I started making some cheese biscuits while my dad made crab legs.  We finished up dinner together and I told Penny she could make Richard a menu if she wanted. She called it the Happy Birthday Cafe and drew up a selection for him. Then we all sat down to feast.  The food was yummy and I think he enjoyed it.

After dinner, we gave him his presents and played a round of his new game for him and Penny, Carcasonne.

Then we headed back to the table to have cake and ice cream.  Oliver blew out the candles while we were singing, so we lit them again and Richard had a go.  When Oliver got sad that we wouldn't "do the fire again," my dad grabbed the still wrapped in Saran Trash Potato, stuck the candles in it, and lit them. Omg I laughed so hard.

Sunday morning we had to head over to the house again to check out the paint work that the contractors had done.  The carpet was suppose to be finished today, but as usual, they are running behind. There were a lot of errors to be addressed, but I don't think any of it will be too time consuming. They were suppose to be done mid-week, but I doubt they will be. It will probably be closer to early next week, maybe. But we are getting there.  It's hard to only have half the house re-painted. The new paint color is harsh against the old paint color, and I seriously considered having them re-paint our bedroom as well.

Today I just completely and totally crashed. The lack of sleep plus the exhaustion of everything going on, it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I laid down on the couch while Penny was in her zoom and Oliver was playing and just dozed on and off for like two hours. I woke up like 60 times to mom periscope to make sure the kids were okay and answer questions, but I could not stay awake for long. I didn't feel much better after the nap either. I do remember Oliver walking in and yelling LOOK MOMMY ITS YOU and it was such a great drawing that I grabbed my phone and snapped a pic.
