Quarantine Journals - Halloween

I'm so far behind but things have just been really stressful.  I just wanted to make a quick post about Halloween.

A lot of people created gadgets and gizmos to "safely" pass out candy for Halloween, but to me, that didn't really mitigate all the risk.  Kids are still crowding around to get candy and touching stuff.. I mean it's probably pretty obvious from the way we have been living our lives that we were not going to be trick or treating.

So I spent time trying to figure out what else we could do. I talked to Penny and in leui of getting costumes, she said she wanted to use the dress up bin and create their own costumes and then go around the inside of our house trick or treating.  So I purchased some glow in the dark stuff, borrowed my childhood blacklight from my dad's house, and even bought some white eggs thinking they would glow in the dark.

The eggs idea didn't pan out, btw.  I let them decorate them as ghosts and ghouls, but they didn't glow in the black light. So I did a Favor run to have someone pick up a glow in the dark pen--The pen didn't work. The eggs didn't glow at all.  And then I realized they didn't open either! Sheesh.

So, on Halloween, Richard and I sat at each set of the kitchen doors, and the kids brought their buckets and picked their costumes and knocked.  We did this many times.  I even called my dad up on Facetime and sat the ipad on my lap so he could chat with us and watch the kids come by.  They had a blast.  After they were done, they went through their candy and ate several pieces.  Then they watched a Halloween video while I snuck into the bedroom and made a ball out of glow sticks, necklaces, bracelets, etc.  I had Richard turn the lights out for their video, and then I snuck out with my crazy glow in the dark eye balls and tape on my shirt to look spooky.  They had a BLAST listening to music and playing catch with the balls, Oliver was so happy to just sit around and disconnect and connect the glow sticks.  I surprised them with Iron Man pajamas and we all had a lot of fun. Penny said it was great, so I will count it as a success.

The neighbors to the left of us even left goody bags on the porch for the kids.
