Quarantine Journals - Impeachment

On Wednesday, President Trump was impeached for the second time. The debate and boats went on all day long. I spent the day on and off listening to the speeches and crying. I could not listen to a single one of them without weeping. I didn't expect to get that emotional, but obviously I did. And then there were the speeches by the people saying that we just needed unity and to move forward, and that was like a whole new level of devastation.

Oh, did I mention that several senators are now coming down with Covid because they were in a safe room with Republicans who refuse to put masks on?

So they held the vote at the end of the day, and only 10, maybe 17? Republicans voted to impeach him. The rest of them either didn't vote, or voted against impeachment. All the Democrats voted for impeachment. Mitch McConnell says he's in sport in support of impeachment but that he won't bring the Senate back into session to do the hearings. Which means that it won't actually go through until after Trump is out of the office. Speaking of, lots of pictures of them moving out their shit.

A lot of people were very excited that he was getting impeached for a second time. There's a lot of hope that he'll finally be held accountable for his actions, and then a message will be sent that you can't insight a coup against the American government without suffering the consequences. Most people are holding out for the fact that he wouldn't be able to run again, and would lose a lot of his presidential perks. But, admittedly, I spent most the day just being severely devastated that it wasn't a sweep. I can't believe that many people are still supporting him. I can't believe some of the stuff I'm hearing.

There is a senator saying that they were leaving reconnaissance tours on January 5 throughout the capital. There are reports saying that people knew exactly where to go to access senators secret offices, bypassing the ones with their names on them to get to the secret ones. There are reports of people sitting in the offices and smearing it all over desks. Reports of people stealing shoes and mail. But now there's also reports of Congress men and women giving insider tips during the insurgency, and even making posts telling people that the speaker of the house was not with the rest of them.

Fucking madness.

The weather finally got nice, so I let the kids go outside and play in the backyard for a little while. I sat in here and folded laundry and watched Boston legal and just sobbed for a bit. It definitely helps take the edge off, I felt a little bit more centered today, but I'm still just teetering on the edge of madness all the time trying to process what's going on.

The stress blisters on my lip have finally almost completely healed, but the rash that I have developed on my back has not gone away. It's just too much. All of it.
