Coppell ISD     Coppell ISD posted in Coppell ISD, CISD - Substitutes     Message from the Superintendent — Update on the 2021-2022 School Year   May 18, 2021 Dear Coppell ISD Family, I could not be more proud of how our CISD community has risen to the challenges we have faced during this school year. I want to sincerely thank the entire CISD family for all you have done to support our students, our staff and one another along every step of the journey through this unique school year. I personally could not have made it through this year without each and every one of you! I want to provide you with several updates to the 2021-2022 school year. I appreciate your grace and patience, as our team has taken the care and time to ensure we have as much information as possible as part of our planning process. We were working toward sharing all of this information in conjunction with our Board Meeting on Monday, May 24, but in light of our Governor's announcement today, we are able to share everything with you sooner. Coppell ISD will not require face masks for students and staff during the 2021-2022 school year. This means masks will be optional for staff, students and visitors. This decision was already in the works before today's Executive Order by Governor Greg Abbott that school districts are among the government entities that cannot have mask mandates beyond June 4. Our Board of Trustees already approved masks being optional for CISD from June 1 to August 6, which includes in person Summer School and Extended School Year (ESY) services. We are extending this mask optional protocol for the entire 2021-2022 school year. CISD also will return to a full face-to-face instructional model for the 2021-2022 school year. This means we will not be offering any virtual learning, including the proposed Virtual Academy. When we announced this possible Virtual Academy on May 7, it was dependent upon family interest, legislative approval and funding viability. Our decision to not move forward is based on the low number of applications we received for the Virtual Academy and our monitoring of the Legislature, which has not yet approved or provided funding for virtual learning beyond this school year. To be clear, CISD is not moving forward with a virtual option for the 2021-2022 school year.  Conditions around COVID-19 continue to improve, the transmission rate remains very low in our district, and our staff members and students 12 and older have the opportunity to receive vaccinations. As such, we are looking forward to a return to more normal operations and traditions in CISD, as we welcome our students, families and volunteers back to school next year. We love our CISD families and want each and every one of you to continue your educational story with us. This school year has been trying, but triumphant for our district, and one that I truly believe has made us stronger by working together. I hope that we can continue this positive trajectory for the 2021-2022 school year. As always, I thank you for your continued support of CISD.
