Quarantine Journals - Oops, School Update

We are still here.  Still sheltering in place.  Still trying to figure out life.  Lots of good things happening, but hard to enjoy them too much when we are still stuck here.  I am sorry I fell out of writing.  It was just that extra thing I couldn't keep up with.  I owe updates, and I will try, but they will have to be brief and you know that's not exactly my strong suit.

As school was approaching, it was announced that there would be no mask requirement at school and no reporting of positive cases.  Cases kept rising and rising, especially in kids.  We had been researching online schools, but I was overwhelmed.  Richard made me a list, and that helped me get started.  I dug deep into about 5 different online schools.  We finally picked one, and then weeks after we applied and had been actively trying to find out if we were in, they announced that they weren't doing anything beneath high school anymore.

So, I switched gears and did all the paperwork for our second choice.  After I got all the paperwork done, we decided to homeschool. Ha. Penny kept asking about it, and I finally just told Richard and I thought I was waiting for someone, even myself, to give me permission to just homeschool.  He said go for it, screw them let's do it.  And so we did.  And it has been great…. No looking back, I am really good at this.  Penny loves it.

I planned out our year, bought too much stuff, and decided that for "pre-k" Oliver would just ride along with Penny for whatever he wanted to.

No.

He NEEDED to learn, and not even one curriculum was enough. I ended up with several and he is DEVOURING everything.  He loves it and is learning so much.  It's a lot to manage, and I was initially very stressed trying to figure out the schedule, but I have since found my flow and can adapt with the best of them.  It's 2PM and we haven't even done school yet today. Oops.

Anyway… we've been going out to my dad's house every other Friday when my brother is not working, so as to not disturb him.  My dad decided to get his vaccine a couple of weeks ago, and he asked me to help him find somewhere he could it safely.  It took a lot of phone calls, but I found a place that was willing to come out to his car to do the shot. So that's what we did.  He gets his second shot next week.  Pfizer.  He is acting like cabin fever maniac, as if the whole world opens up after this shot… meanwhile… I'm still here drowning, ha.  I can't burst his bubble though.

Madelynn got covid for the second time, and that finally got Amy in to get her vaccine.  I hope Maddie will go too soon.  Amy was at work while she was waiting on her test results, and I got pretty cross with her, but then I said we just can't talk about this anymore because I'm not prepared to risk this relationship.

We are still doing therapy, couples and single.  Richard bought masks for the kids and we are going to try to go to fossil rim with them soon, maybe.

I am nervous but we will figure it out.

See you later.
