April Fools Day

Penny was asking me about April Fools Day a month ago. Looking at holidays on her calendar. And I told her I'm not really a fan... it isn't usually pleasant for the person being pranked, in my experience.

But she insisted she wanted to have some fun. And then, like everyone does, she completely forgot about it.

So today, I carefully opened some pokemon cards, emptied the packs, and filled them back up with the "code cards" that they include in each pack. Basically trash. For some online game we don't play. So every card in the pack was just this worthless crap that we have been keeping in a box. And then I carefully tape them shut so I hope they won't notice and flip them around so that side is hidden in my hand.

I came out with the packs and the kids are screaming because everyone is obsessed with pokemon cards these days. And I mess around with them and I finally give them the packs. Penny opens hers up first, way too easily because she flipped it around and opened it where I had already resealed it. She starts pulling out the cards and yells "WHAT THE! MOM! YOU DID THIS! YOU DID THIS AND THAT IS WHY IT WAS SO EASY TO OPEN!"

Richard and I are playing dumb. I open the pack for Oliver and he flips out. Screaming THATS NOT FAIR! THATS NOT FUNNY! And he's getting ready to kill me, clearly. I throw my hands up in the air yelling "What day is it? Does anyone know what day it is?" And Penny is scowling at me, "It's Friday!"

So we yell APRIL FOOLS DAY I TOLD YOU IT SUCKS.

But in the end she said it was clever and she liked it.

Oliver was not amused. Of course, I gave them all the cards afterwards so that helped the mood.
