Crystal Beach Breakout - Vacation Day 3

MONDAY
When we woke up, the winds were insane.  We had planned to set up the canopy that Amy had let us borrow for a day at the beach BEFORE the Man O War situation, but it was clearly too windy to even think about that and also... venomous zooids all over the beach.  We told Penny the waves would probably be too dangerous to go out as far as she was going before, and she got really upset.  I think she cried for over an hour.  Even as we were getting ready to go down to the beach to check it out, she was sobbing.

The waves were indeed way too crazy, and I saw over 50 Man O Wars while we were driving up and down the beach.  But we still let them go out shallow and play.  Am I more afraid of disappointing my kids than I am of venomous sea creatures? Possibly.  We also spent some time on the beach building a big sand castle together.  Richard found some stray plastic with barnacles on them being washed in, and we added them to the pond next to our sand castle.  After a couple of hours, we decided to pack up and head out.

Another lovely lunch outside, and then we decided to go give fishing a try.  Richard assembled the new fishing pole, and we went out to a spot across for the bait shop, but it was mostly underwater.  We talked that canal doing some fishing here and there using leftover cooked shrimp, but the only thing we caught the attention of was a very large crab that kept trying to creep up on Penny's pole.  The other side of the street was a big marsh and we saw tons of birds, so that was neat.  Then we packed up and decided to try the North Jetty.

On the way to the Jetty, we stopped at Fort Travis to look around.  There were quite a few people there, but we stayed away from them, explored, peed, and headed to the Jetty.

The Jetty was a bit intense.  I kept a close hold on Oliver because yikes, no railings, no nothing.  We saw lots of small crabs and hermit crabs, herons, etc as we walked out to find somewhere for them to fish.  Richard and Penny took over the fishing part while Oliver and I walked the length of the Jetty.  It was not exactly a field day for my foot, but I am painfully familiar with feeling over-it with fishing, haha.  Not that I was this time..

There was a little sandy island in the middle of the bayed area that had tons and tons and tons of birds on it.  It was amazing. I think we saw over 12 different species, including this pair of GORGEOUS bright pink Spoonbills.  After they were finished fishing, we cut the shrimp up into pieces and threw them to the seagulls, which the kids loved.

Another delicious dinner outside with the fam, another late bedtime.  I started my ultrasound treatments on my foot in hopes of kickstarting some healing.
