Crystal Beach Breakout - Vacation Day 5
WEDNESDAY
It's my birthday! Still got red flags on the beach, but we decided today was a good day for fishing. We were right. Hot potato, I couldn't believe it, but Penny caught a fish on like every other catch. She was so excited! We went to that bait shop down by the bay, bought some shrimp and squid, and the shrimp was a big hit. Penny caught about 9 fish including catfish, croakers, black drum, piggy perch, etc. Richard and I caught a few as well. Oliver wasn't really interested in fishing, so he mostly took pictures.
For lunch, we had fresh Grouper and it was delicious.
After lunch, Richard had the idea to go out to The Anahuac National Park. I was a little worried about Oliver in the car, and it wasn't exactly a picnic, but we saw an alligator sitting by the road on the way in and that was super exciting. Circled back around and he wandered off, I was so disappointed. We entered the park and right off the bat saw some honey bees and a whole lotta butterflies and birds. Started driving the auto loop and spotted a big alligator sliding in the water. We watched it a while, me wishing I had my binoculars or camera with me. Ugh! But I had no idea that we were going to see OVER A HUNDRED MORE by the time we were finished. We also about a dozen bird speicies including the Purple Gallihnule, which was just gorgeous. The whole park was spectacular and we spent hours driving around it and exploring the walking paths. It was really such a special treat.
On the way home, we saw a cottonmouth on the road. Then we talked to my dad and the kids and Richard gave me birthday cards. We went home, ate a quick dinner, and called it a night. Save the cake for another day!
