Crystal Beach Breakout - Vacation Day 7
FRIDAY
Friday was declared BEACH DAY. The wind finally quieted down Thursday evening, quite suddenly, and we were left with some heat and humidity. Still, by the beach it was nice. We loaded up the canopy, snacks, and toys and headed down to find ourselves a spot. There was a Crab Festival starting, and lots of people showing up in the neighborhood, but the beach wasn't too terribly busy. We didn't see any zooids on the beach, and the kids ran straight out to boogey board. I spent a lot of time under the canopy, playing in the sand and digging holes to bury the kiddos.
Richard spent a ton of time in the water, surfing Oliver, holding his hand so he could jump the waves, and taking the kids waay out now that things had calmed down a bit. I went out with them a couple of times, and one of the times I saw a red snapper when I was just mid-calf deep in the water. It was HUGE, at least 3 feet and just gorgeous.
We started the tide pool up again since the water was so clear, but only managed to find barnacles stuck to fiberglass, plastic, and an old wedge heel shoe.
After wave surfing, Oliver wanted to be buried in the sand, so we did that. Later, Penny had a turn as well. We stayed out from 11AM until about 5PM when I noticed that Penny's legs were getting really red. We had been putting on sun screen like clockwork, so I am not sure what happened, but her hands, legs, and ears got pretty burned. They kids went out for one last play in the water as we decided that it wouldn't be wise to get much more sun on our final day after these burns.
About half way through our beach day, Amy called to tell me Happy late Birthday and we talked to her for a bit. We also saw two man o wars wash up during that time, but luckily we were able to finish out our ocean play time safely.
We got back late, showered, ate, and called it a night.
